Apply for additional temporary outdoor seating due to COVID-19
Whether you have been able to continue working with modified operations or have been forced to temporarily close your doors, we know the last month has been a struggle, and we recognize the challenges you face as a restaurant owner.
As we slowly move towards a return to normalcy, the City of O'Fallon has been looking at ways we can support our City's restaurants. We know that even though you may soon be allowed to "reopen," seating limitations brought about by social distancing will limit your ability to serve as many customers as before. With that in mind, we wanted to make you aware of a temporary opportunity to expand your business' operations.
In order to allow our restaurants to easily expand their outdoor service areas, the City will begin waiving fees for the required temporary use permit that is required for outdoor seating. In addition, we promise an expedited review of all applications within two business days and may allow temporary seating to be added in areas not normally allowed, such as sidewalks and adjacent parking areas - provided adequate standard and ADA-accessible parking and walkways remain and provided the additional tables can be placed in a manner that is safe for patrons and employees. These temporary use permits, when granted, will be approved for a 120-day period (or through September 7, 2020, whichever comes first) with an option for an automatic extension, should conditions require that social distancing remains in place following the planned expiration.
We understand that these unprecedented challenges have severely impacted your business, and we hope that this action will offer an opportunity for you to safely serve as many customers as possible during the busy summer months, while still obeying all Federal and State guidelines related to COVID-19. Please note that the City's action only impacts your ability to add additional seating in outside areas. You will still need to abide by the terms of your liquor license and any guidelines put in place by the St. Charles County Health Department.
We encourage you to evaluate your space and see if this option will work for your business. If you are interested in applying, please review the attached checklist to see what is required for this special temporary use permit to extend your premises. As part of your application, you will also need the written permission of the property owner to place additional seating outside your normal premises.
